Southern University and A&M College is a comprehensive institution offering four-year, graduate, professional, and doctorate degree programs, fully accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS). The University today is part of the only historically Black Land Grant university system in the United States.

For new students, the first official contact with the University is often through the Office of Admissions and Recruitment. This unit is responsible for recruiting and admitting undergraduate students to the University. Responsibilities include the development of effective school relations programs with high schools and community colleges, recruitment of prospective freshmen and undergraduate transfer students, evaluation of academic credit being transferred to the University, the admission of resident and nonresident students to the University, and providing orientation information about the University's important scheduled events.

Undergraduate Admissions Requirements

Here's your admission application checklist:

• I've submitted: My official high-school transcript (including date of graduation); A copy of my ACT or SAT examination score; A copy of my immunization record (Louisiana law requires immunization against measles, mumps, rubella, tetnus-diptheria, hepatitus B, varicella, polio, & meningococcal disease);  My application fee: $20 (U.S. citizen) or $30 (non-U.S. citizen)

Note: The application fee should be submitted as a money order.  Cash, drafts & personal checks are not accepted.

• I've achieved: A high-school grade-point average (gpa) of 2.0 or higher; and ACT composite score of 20 (or SAT 940).

Note: An ACT or SAT must be submitted, even when a 2.0 gpa has been achieved.  A minimum ACT English score of 18 and math ACT score of 19 (or SAT critical reading sub score of 450 AND SAT math sub score of 460).

• I've also completed: Louisiana's core high-school curriculum requirements.

Note: Out of state students do not have the core 4 curriculum they can be admitted with a 2.0 gpa and ACT/SAT composite score of 20 or 940.  However,  if they meet the sub score requirement and have the minimum 2.0 gpa they can be admitted as if they were a LA student if they have the core 4 curriculum.
